Baufritz

Our commitment

Plant a tree

As timber is the only renewable building material, it means that owners of a Baufritz house will be helping to preserve nature's cycle.  We combine sustainable ecology and the highest energy efficiency in all our buildings and have been leading the eco-friendly housing market through our provision of carbon positive homes; which we have been building for the last 15 years.

Every Baufritz house is carbon positive to the extent that each house locks away at least 50 tonnes more CO2 than is emitted during manufacture, transportation and construction (including running costs for 5-10 years depending upon the type of heating system used).  After 5-10 years, the CO2 emitted for running costs of the house will gradually reduce the carbon positive level of the house until it eventually becomes carbon neutral.

In a highly efficient house that embraces solar power, state-of-the-art-ventilation and heat recovery systems it can take more than three generations (approximately 78 years) to reach the carbon neutral stage, this can reduce to around 23 years for a much less energy efficient home.  As each Baufritz home is tailor-made for each customer, it is the customer’s choice as to the extent of their homes efficiency but on average this ranges from a minimum annual energy consumption of 1.5 litres of light heating oil per 1m² of living space to a maximum of 5 litres.

The CO2 calculation for each house is measured using a recognised independent German system developed by Professor Koenig which takes into account carbon emissions from the very start of the process to include the manufacture, construction, transportation of the house. Baufritz was the first German construction company to take the independent 'EU Eco Audit' in 1996, which it has passed four times to date (this audit measures and monitors all emissions resulting from the manufacturing and construction and transportation process).

Only the best quality organically forested Larch and Spruce wood go into making a Baufritz home, logged from sustainable forests to provide resource for future generations.  We undertake extensive tree planting schemes to mark our active approach to environmental protection.

Each home built by Baufritz comes with a unique promise; because the materials used to build it are 100% biodegradable, the home can be completely returned to nature in several generations if required.
